Professor Chukwuka Nwocha Uchendu graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1982 with the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. He obtained an MPhil degree in Physiology from The University of Hong Kong in 1990, and a Ph.D. from the University of Nigeria in 1996.
After working for few veterinary establishments in the country, he joined the service of the University of Nigeria as a Graduate Assistant in May 1986. He rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Veterinary Physiology and Endocrinology in 2003.
During his career in the university, he has held various academic and administrative positions as Head of Department of Veterinary Physiology/Pharmacology and Head of Veterinary Obstetrics and Reproductive Diseases. He was one time the Associate Dean/Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and at a later time the Director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Outside the University of Nigeria, he at various times served as External Examiner and Guest Lecturer/Visiting Professor for veterinary schools and colleges in the country. He is presently the Chairman, Board of Governors of Doyen Academy School of Preliminary Studies, Enugu. He has published extensively in national and international journals of repute and is a reviewer for many journals within and outside Nigeria.
Professor Uchendu has earned several international fellowships and awards including the British Commonwealth, World Bank, and Third World Academy of Sciences. He is a member of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) and a Fellow of the College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria (FCVSN).
